Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning. | Your RTK base should be mounted to something with as little give as possible. Towers and old elevator buildings all have enough give to make them unsuitable. You need a clear view to the south and extra height really does you no good. Here are some pics of my install that I did several years ago. First pic is the frame, minus enclosure for the radio. Second shows the base and short tower and the last is the corrections tower. Actual antenna is mounted on a stand off with mast extending above it, as a lightning attractor.
