North Central Kansas | We bred six cows last summer that we knew this would be there last year. We are grafting their calves on heifers and cows that have lost their calves. We will sell them when they get dried up. On cows that we know it is their last trip we try to group them in small pastures without a bull. That way we aren't tempted to run them another year. If I liked dealing with people I would do the direct beef route but I don't have the time or patience. I know there are a lot of people that do this with their culls.
They all can die. Sometimes though we try to get that one more calf out of them and it bites us. I just took a five year old cow to the butcher. She dislocated both hips. Was able to salvage hamburger out of her but could not sell her. | |
