We run 15-20 gal this way for 8 years now. Base of 6-8 gal 10-34, then any mix you want.
What’s he max you think you could run on heavy soil? I’m currently running 28 gallon of 30-0-0-2.5S, with a stabilizer, split 2.5” either side on the surface. Planting 2.25” deep in heavy soil and I’m kinda questioning it.
