General rule of 10 gal max per inch from the seed. Remember a split system fives you more flexibility than one sided. Your rates in heavy ground probably more common anymore than not, nothing to really be afraid of.
Used to run a 4*2 coulter on the planter and put up to 50 gal on odd fields to save a pass. If you are truly 2.5 to each side, i could see 40 gal going out pretty safe.
