Southeast Colorado | Only other thing I can add, is that Base acres usually affect the selling price of land around here. We bought our first farm in 1994, and definitely were factoring in expected payments in our bid. Since then we've added quite a few parcels............and every time we do, the Base and current farm program has factored into the selling price.
For that reason.............I'm fine with them never changing those numbers. I didn't design the program...........just figured out how to utilize it to the best of my ability. That's also the reason I don't equate farm payments to welfare. If anything..........they were welfare to the original folks who owned the land when the first farm program started. The rest of us have paid to enter this profession. Either with higher rents.............or higher land prices. | |
