Winkler, Manitoba Canada | We typically freeze our corn as cold as possible over winter and then cover the fans towards spring and leave it. Just monitor the temperature. This has worked well with very minimal spoilage selling corn until late July. This winter it has been difficult to know when to cover the fan as we have had spring like conditions for much of the winter. Suppose to get cold later this week so will likely run the fans one more time and then cover permanently for the summer.
As we replaced one inline centrifugal fan with a full centrifugal and added a second full centrifugal fan to the mix, we needed a different way to cover the fan inlets than the canvas covers we had been using. Made a pair of metal 14 gauge covers that can be attached to the existing bolts on the fans. Added some foam weatherstripping to seal the opening a little better.
