Star Prairie, WI | Ed, I'm not an electric hater, but thanks to your numbers, I doubt one is in my near future.
I would save about $6k in fuel over my midsize AWD SUV in 100,000 miles of use. Oil changes/maintenance would add to that slightly, but a similar year/mileage Model 3 Extended Range is going to cost about $5k more than my SUV did - and I don't know without calling the dealer if that includes a home charger.
Add that to the issue I have from time to time of a commute home from work of 45ish miles on roads with 1-12" of snow on them. (I realize an electric SUV or truck would be better suited, but then the cost rises substantially.)
I'll wait and see what the future offers, but right now, I'll stick with a gasser.
