Star Prairie, WI | Ed's $ per mile would be .038 at my home rate of 11c/kwh. I'm just under 11c/mile in the 7,000 miles since I bought this car, call it .07 per mile difference, add another cent per mile for my oil change cost, $8,000 per 100K of use, or $1600 per year @ 20K miles per year I average.
Going to a similar sized Tesla (Model X) would cost somewhere between 12-15K more than I spent on my Buick Envision. No idea what the comparison will be at 150,000 miles when I plan to replace this one, but the higher mileage Teslas I see right now (though newer) seem to come at a pretty sharp discount compared to a low mileage one.
I will take the higher operating cost over higher initial cost (and financing costs), and hope the price of fuel doesn't double, although the cost of electricity could well do the same. | |
