I think permethrin for 'spider nest control' was in the realm of like 50x regular dose for more of a residual action, so maybe double check what you were spraying and the dose accordingly.

We've sprayed around buildings for troublesome spots and literally it'd be a solid year or two before we see any spiders getting into the area, and that'd be in full weather areas too. It'd just be spraying around the base and around it and that'd probably be plenty fine. Especially if spraying at the spider nest application rate, don't be messing around, just spray (or almost brush it on I guess?) if you didn't want to have it drifting around or anything like that.
