OK, I have been thinking wrong. I do not have to ensure the RID is transmitting anything. Just make sure the green light on the RID is on before take-off. I'll also have no way of ensuring it transmits prior to or during flight.

I might've read too much into the instructions with my Z-Rid Lite RID.
