Can you be sure it wasn’t already in the fuel? We use plastic cans to fill our water pump motors and we get premium gas from the gas station rather than use gas from the farm bulk tank. Don’t have any problems with the gas that way. Also use ethanol free gas. The ethanol can hold moisture in the fuel that can condense with temperature swings and cause problems for small engines.


This has been an issue with B&S engines for decades, if they used a funnel for a cap it would be better.

A cover like a 30 gal barrel cut in half helps.
