Have fought this in 3-4 motors over the years. Might only sit out 1 rain some springs and of course there’s water in the fuel tank. Pain taking the tank off everytime to clean out. Is the water going in through cap/vent somehow?

If it's a steel fuel tank, during the day it will heat up and expand. At night it will cool and contract, creating a vacuum that sucks moist air in past the cap.
