Wisconsin | If the starter has been replaced, the replacement could have an Integrated Start Relay, ANOTHER switch on top of the main starter solenoid. If the starter is original to the engine, then it's most likely worn out contacts in the big starter solenoid, you'd hear the clunk but no movement from the starter. You can sometimes clean up the contacts, or buy a new solenoid and replace it with the starter still on the engine. If it's the original direct drive starter, consider a genuine (delco probably, maybe denso, Iskra/Mahle) gear reduction replacement.
Test it, hook up a test lead to the small signal terminal on the starter solenoid, and see if that is hot when the start button is pressed. If it isn't, then the problem is upstream. If it is hot, then the issue is in the solenoid or less likely the starter itself, check by moving the test lead to the big terminal going into the starter. | |
