No comment on the pain side of things but as to your question about the body 'forgetting to run" as we get older I'd agree with that. I think those that regularly run are able to keep the range of motion in all the relevant joints but for those of us that likely stopped 'running' in our twenties its a different story. I used to be able to run fairly well, not long distance but I could run fast in short bursts. Now at 54.. 'running' is basically getting to the bathroom as fast as I can LOL.. it may not look like the running of my youth but I can still do short bursts, but the distances are much shorter. Where I used to be able to spring say 200yards, its not more like 50 yds , and I can all but guarantee my knees or ankles will be aching when I'm done LOL
