Define mid-range price. How far North do you want to go? There are lots of rental cottages within 20 miles of our place. Many around Shawano Lake. You could go a bit further North to Mountain or Lakewood. Tomahawk and Rhinelander are further West.

Lots of nice places in/around Minocqua and Eagle River. I am sure there are lots more further west(Rice Lake, Menomonie). I don't doubt you could find something by LaCrosse. The drive on hwy 35 along the Mississippi in the fall is spectacular.

Narrow it down to an area. No shortage of places to stay, AFAIK.
