Subject: RE: Central Vaccum Systems

I've lived in a rooming house for years that had central vac. Didn't dislike it, but I didn't think there was any compelling advantage over it at all. This was a newer suburban two-story home it didn't have a huge floor area and only needed one outlet per story for a 30 foot hose. In a regular vacuum the cord retracts back into the unit but handling a central vac's hose can be a no-worse chore.

If I owned a house with central vac I would move the outlet to inside of the hall closet and leave it plugged in all the time, with a seperate wall switch for the motor. That way I could stuff the hose and power unit back in the closet when finished. And have the same arrangement upstairs with another hose.
