Subject: Re: homemade ice cream

Near Richmond, IN
Our family recipe is pretty similar to Farmerswife658:
6 eggs
3 cups sugar
3 packages of "Junket" Brand Vanilla Ice Cream Mix
3 pints half & half
3 tablespoons Vanilla-----We only use Mexican Vanilla--much better but I've got a sister near there that can get it for me.
Mix all that and then fill the container to the top with regular milk (not 2%-although that probably wouldn't make much difference.)
This is for a 6qt freezer.
I've never had anyone say they've had better ice cream. I make it all the time and keep it in the freezer-eat it year round. My sister told me once I shouldn't use uncooked eggs. I told her that's how mom & dad made it when we were young and that 's how I've made it ever since (and I'm 60 now) so I'm not changing now. I think the biggest thing is the mexican vanilla-it's called "Premier" brand-not all are as good as this one.
