C IL | Finding land to rent on reasonable terms is a full time industry wide issue. Your post indicates that the BTOs are always going to outbid you. The market is telling you either you must accept smaller margins (or larger losses) to stay in the game. You are likely at the age where you kind of live out of your vehicle, since you may be lots of places - college, home, farm, work. Choosing a good off-farm job could gain you invaluable experience - hopefully in farm/financial management. A few years off farm seems like forever, but allows you to make industry contacts and it also allows further opportunities at home to develop. Hopefully, you can be at the farm some during the busiest times. Your brother may also face similar circumstances. Crop farming is not completely full employment, so it may be realistic that both you and your brother operate the farm - AND hold off farm jobs. Good luck, many others are in your shoes! | |
