southern MN | An out of the box, and likely more expensive, thought is Decra. Metal shingle, but has a stone coating on it, looks like a real shingle, doesn't kill a person with snow sliding off a 2 story house (like ours....), 50 year warrenty.

I have no personal experience, but I'm saving my pennies. Friend's 1st cuosin used them, and my friend plans to this fall yet.
