MN | Agree it's not the easiest sometimes - we were told to avoid the pacifier and bottle until the baby got the hang of it (and I was pretty sure the baby was going to starve to death before we got the hang of it the first time-he's 17 now and about 6 feet tall-he did have jaundice so keep checking on that if that is questioned at all). Check with the hospital to see if they have a lactation consultant. Back when we had our first (17 years ago) there was a really good booklet they handed out about breast feeding. Don't give up and check in with your hospital nursing staff (even if it is the holiday/weekend) and they should be able to help you out and above all don't get discouraged - babies are much healthier with breast feeding! If falls asleep or won't wake up fully (problem with my second one because he was a little early at 37 weeks), they told us to undress him and make him a little uncomfortable, wipe his face with a wet cloth to make him wake up - also worked well - he's now 15 and 6 feet tall! Good luck and don't lose hope! | |
