Don't know about fish, but my wife once got a beef roast thawed out, started to cook, & then noticed the date, realized it had been missed when the old meat was cleaned out, it was over 3 years old...we decided to go ahead & try it, it was fine-outer fat was just a tad old-tasting, but entirely edible.
