Subject: Aflatoxin Southern Illionois?

EC IL
Field superviser stopped by while I was mowing roadsides and said corn harvest started in Southern Il. and black light test of corn shows possible aflatoxin. Said adjuster was called to pick up sample from field and take to testing lab. Corn is drought stressed making 40 -50 bu per acre. Corn is south of Interstate 70, 40 miles east of St. Louis.

I bring this up to remind everyone that samples for toxins to qualify for MPCI must be taken by adjuster from field or directly from combine and be tested by an approved lab. So if you suspect a problem get ahold of your agent and let him earn his money.
