Subject: RE: Wheat after Milo

I've planted wheat into milo stubble for quite a few years. BUT, I've never had 2 pounds of atrazine either. We usually put down 1 pound. You MIGHT be ok if it was put on in April or so. Maybe. One thing I have noticed over the years of doing double crop milo after wheat using 2 pounds of Atrazine is that the volunteer wheat will start coming through around the middle of september with the fall rain. So, maybe, if it was applied early enough it might work. If you do it, be sure to kill the milo stalks if it hasn't froze them dead. They will continue to use moisture and cause other problems. The other thing is that it seems to take about 30-50 pounds extra nitrogen to raise a good wheat crop. With the current price of nitrogen, that is a lot of dollars.
