Jim tell me about this. Just what is it like, very soft I would think? But very soft can be compaced very deep as well.
I agree that one should only have to deep rip every once in several years, not each or even every other year.
Your Dawn strip is a pleasure to plant in if the soil is in good shape when the strip is made. As you've said many times just let it dry off a bit then plant, any lumps will be crushed by the guage wheels of the planter.
