Northeast Louisiana | Ditto, ran a 960 for one year. Great in rice, wheat, milo, even down rice. Not too good for soybeans, particularly indeterminate varieties that make near the ground. For determinate bush type beans that can be cut 2-4 inches high, it will work ok. It can certainly be done, but the new drapers work much better. We sold ours to a guy who just wanted it for rice and bought a Case 1052 (red painted McDon 972). Much happier with it in beans.
The draper will be better for the down rice, but you will have to go slow due to taking all of the stalk through the combine. In my experience, the stripper will leave a lot of the down rice, particularly is its laying flat.
