Subject: RE: I don't get it...

With all the pain that people keep experiencing with Apex... why keep trying to use it?  The software packages from FarmWorks, AgLeader, and MapShots provide support for all GS1 and most GS2 features, and in some cases get MORE out of the hardware than can Apex.   Apex is a one color piece of software.   Get into a more open platform.  There may be other software packages that support the GS2, as well.

Why would anyone let a piece of marginal office software have any impact on their field hardware decisions when the office software is not required?   Many Deere dealers now sell other brands of software, and you can often get the dealer to eat the margin on the other software packages as a way of getting most of your Apex purchase cost back.

I'm reminded of the old joke... "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."   Doctor's response:  "Then stop doing it."

Ted, your intensions are valid, the question I have is when you say "most GS2 features", what DON'T they support? What training and support is offered for the alternatives, at our dealership in Australia we run training clinics for Apex with a connection the AMS staff in Des Moines which helps our customers get the most from Apex.

Given that this issue is possibly related to a new installation of Vista should the customer support for any of these products be able to fix every configuration issue that may arise.

I am actually quite interested in trying MapShots, but it is too expensive for my boss to justify the benefits.
