Subject: Re: Corn stalks for hay

if you are letting someone strip your ground of the residue you will be losing some fertility and a lot of organic matter from your soil. you are also opening up your soil to the potential for erosion. the people I have talked to in iowa have told me that corn stalk bales should be worth about 20-24 per bale. if you take out what costom harvesting costs would be in your area, that should give you an idea what they are worth. if you put a cover crop back out there it might be a decent way to increase cash flow without hurting yourself in the end. some people in our area do what you're describing but they typically don't raise top yields every year either.
