Hay Wilson in TX
Posted 9/27/2007 07:40 (#210524 - in reply to #210283)
Subject: I agree with all the above.

Little River, TX
I left a long one on the Machine page.

I will simply add we had enough rain to put all my hay ground under water for days to weeks. My bermudagrass survived this treatment and went 85 days between first and second cutting.

Unfortunately the alfalfa did not survive the abuse and will be plowed out.
Some alfalfa simply drowned but a lot died from root rot. One field had HR PRR rating plus R Aph rating, and odd areas that did not stay under water too long. but simply on saturated mud survived.
The survived portion was in an odd shape and less than a fourth of the field so will also be plowed out.
Starting next fall I will plant back one field to alfalfa, each year. till it is all back in alfalfa again. My neighbor will plant RR corn on most of the drowned out land this next season. One field each season be fallowed and will receive intensive weed control for the entire season.
