Habit is why I always used to run my hand through the corn. Most elevators will train employees to run their hand through the grain and also to smell it and then it becomes habit. When you grade grain sometimes just feeling the corn will give you an indication of wet or dry and also temp. When you test moist in the spring after a guy has almost frozen the grain in a bin many testers will not test grain below a certain temp so grader has to allow it to warm up. IMO there's not a chance someone running their hand through it will change its moisture content unless the truck is loaded with both wet from combine and dry YC from dryer or putting wet corn in rear hopper and dry corn in front of a semi.
