Subject: Re: Corn Condition

Somerville, Indiana
we have seen root lodging here in wet windy conditions, much worse than stalk lodging. the root ball goes thru the combine, along with the stalk and makes for much more MOG wearing out the machine. Dirt is so abrasive to auger troughs, auger flighting, etc.

Seed supplier is telling me the triple stacks are getting a lot more attention in genetics than the standard corns. There is the additional factor of planting and watching from week to week instead of having to live in the cornfield to watch what is going on with a good triple stack genetic corn. 'Here' we will be watching closely.

Time is so precious in April, some have tried to put a value on it, but we have come to realize there is no monetary value that will buy back time that should have been spent planting corn instead of mixing, pouring, running back to the supply trailer to get another 2 gallons of 'dope' to finish up before dark. Having all the good seed traits to be able to forgo treatment otherwise and raise a better more reliable stalk seems like a dream come true to me and looks like we have it almost down to a science, especially for the 08 crop.
