Subject: RE: corn drying

West Central MN
We dump hot into 42,000 54,000 and 72,000 bushel grain bins.

What I do is fill each bin half full and then take grain out to get the fines out of the center. The fines will be hot (they never will cool off in the center of a bin) so when you reach cool grain you can stop. Fill the bin until level with the eaves and repeat the coring procedure listed above. Usually 2-3 semi loads is all it takes.

If you want to peak the bin, I always do this using the heat and cool setting on the dryer. That way the grain in the peak is already cool going in and it won't be a problem.

I always take the peaks out as soon as practical. Sometimes it is December but we always have the peaks out by January. I just feel alot better about not having the peaks in there any longer than necessary.
