BigNorsk has probably hit the nail on the head. Good fertility on a soil test sometimes indicates that something else is limiting productivity, so the fertility just keeps building up as the poor areas receive the same fertilizer as the rest of the field.

Get out a shovel (or a backhoe) and check for compaction...this often goes hand inhand with too much wet.

I would be surprised if any soil additive would provide a "magic bullet". It might mean splitting out those areas of Cowden soil, if they are large enough to manage seperately, and use shorter day beans and corn along with a bit later planting to give the ground more time to dry out. Try some deep rooted cover crops, as well (or 3 years of alfalfa)!
