I know of two people that have used foam. One was 20 years ago and the other was 8 years ago. Both have problems with the foam deteriating and leaving a yellowish dust everywhere. I dropped the ceiling down to the trusses and have never regretted it. The trusses are 10' apart, so 2x4's were used to make a grid to fasten 4'x10'x2" sheets of Tuff-R that were then taped. Also, the more insulation you have on the ceiling the better off you are. Remember that heats rises and you want to keep as much of it as possible.
