Subject: chevy dually rims, what years interchange?

nc ks
we have an early 80's dually that has different shaped rims than our early 90's dually but I think they'll interchange. The early 80's rim won't fit the 2001 dually because the lug bolts are slightly bigger (they'll go on but not quite all the way, never tried the early 90's rims). We now have aquired a couple 2000 duallys that are the older body style but have the lug nuts like the 2001. I'm just looking for some one who knows what works with what so I don't have to guess and trial by error. It seems like the 2001 rims don't have as much clearance between the wheels as 235/75-16 tires almost rub where they work fine on the older trucks. I want to increase tire size on the 2000 trucks from 225's to 235's if there is enough clearance. Anybody mess with dually's of different generations?
