Subject: RE: Soybean Spacing?

Southeast MN
I started out with 38" rows, then to 30" when the corn planter changed. Before RR beans, it was nice to have the option of cultivating. Two seasons ago I bought a dedicated bean rig, 9 row 20" and like that spacing because it canopies faster than the 30"s and the beans are close together to help push through a crust at emergence. I didn't see a big yield difference between 38 and 30, 20" has seen a few bushel yield increase, and I blame that on better late season weed control. This is SE Mn and climate and growing season will play a big factor in what works for you.

Just an idea but can you re-stagger the GP and block off unused drops to fit your beds? Maybe a modified twin row setup?
