It will also help if your soil is rich in potash. K is part of the system that shuts the water loss from the plants during the day. If you hay test have shown a 2.50% K, or so, you should have enough potash.

I loose more alfalfa plants to our annual summer drought than we ever will with freeze damage in Central Texas.
