Subject: RE: Swather speeds

We dont raise canola any more but when we did we had Macdon swather, the speed you are hearing about are on the top end. We could cut effectively at 6 mph average. We got out of canola 2 years ago, and the last swather we had was 2005 macdon. The new swathers are going to cost a pretty penny, I think around 105000 with heads, from macdon, and around 85000 from Deere. My BIL who farms alot of canoal, aroudn 4000 acres a year, just traded off their Macdon swathers for Massey's or Hesstons' they are much more reasonable price. I think he said around 60000 straight out, and most guys that are running them say they are every bit as good as the Macdons. They have a SCH sickle, and are all hydrauilc drive, that is where I would start looking if I were you, then I would go down the deere road. The Macdon are spendy
