Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | It is usually recommended to have a flowmeter mounted vertically with straight flow going in and out for a distance 10 x the plumbing size. This is a good idea but rarely works out very well in the real world where space restrictions are a problem.
We have hundreds of units out where the Raven flowmeter is mounted horizontally and is flanged connected to ball valves (we use Banjo).
Our usual "plate" consists of a strainer connected to a flowmeter then the control valve with a couple of 90 degree flanged elbows and then feeds the valves. Due to the large openings in the flange connections we have had no problems with flow distrubance or restrictions.
The stem orientation is not important.
