Saginaw Michigan | walked into a corn field today.... been behind on scouting corn on account of wheat harvest and spraying beets, anyway i was completly blown away by what i saw. There were rootworm beetles flying everywhere. at least one per silk and acouple more on the leaves. corn tasselled and silked just last week.. this is corn on corn, which is somthing we dont do to often. we have very very little rootworm pressure "here" mostly because of our long rotations. corn, beets, beans, wheat, back to corn, but somtimes we go corn twice depending on our beet acres we can plant. have never applied any insecticide on corn...never thought it was needed here.
the question: how many beetles do i need to worry about pollination problems?
asana and a plane arent free, but i cant risk the best looking corn ive had in years. not really worrried about them laying eggs, since it will not be corn again for a few years. myabe i should be????
