Typically we do not worry about damage from adult beetles unless they are really clipping silks way back (less than 1/2") or are feeding on the tassel enough to hurt pollen shed.

The beetles could have came from surrounding areas into your fields as adults, but chances are you had a pretty hefty population of larva feeding on your corn roots this year. I would consider insecticide or CRW corn next time you plant corn on corn.
