Little River, TX | The only reason I mentioned humidity as it is a good indicator for the time of day to bale hay. In fact it is the humidity inside the windrow that is important but that is beyond my ability to measure, now.
Short answer is hay above 70%, in the windrow, will bale too high a moisture content for small sq bales (<20% moisture). There is heating and mold potential. When closer to 65% humidity the hay bales well looses very few leaves, and the bale moisture wil be in the 16% to 18% range. Below 55% moisture and we loose dry matter to leaf shatter as well as quality.
Dew point is a good predictor for comfort. | |
