Subject: Corn ear size ?

While scouting my corn I'm finding ears with 14 or 16 rows. My brother while scouting his and dads fields are finding 18 and 20 row ears.

Can number of rows be improved with increased fertility? Does high population reduce the number of rows per ear?

What more important to high yields, number of rows or number of kernels per row?

Hope this starts some good discussion.
