The way I understand it is that each hybrid has a tendency toward a certain number of rows, some more than others. Then at an early stage, like the 5 leaf stage, the plant will analyze its environment and add or subtract rows accordingly. Yield would be determined by many other factors after that point and not so much number of rows or length. Having both is always nice though!
