The batteries we use are Nickel-Metal Halide, or something close to that. The Ni-Cd would only hold a charge for about 13 hours and these Ni-Mh will do a 24 hour shift. Most of ours is monitoring and only talk iof we are working a call or sometimes a shift change event. The Kenwood Ni-Cd's are about 1200 milliamp hours and the Ni-Mh are 2100 milliamp hours. Not sure what they are comparable to in true hours or minutes. The ones we carry are always in a holster to prevent the contacts rubbing on something and shorting out and to protect the radio. Some scenes get a bit rough on those radios.
