Subject: RE: NDVI Mappers

SE Iowa
Just my thoughts:

- Start mapping with a visual camera (a.k.a. RGB, the stock Phantom 3 camera). Once you understand what it's like to map, then look for a Near IR camera. DO NOT get fooled into thinking that a False NDVI (NDVI created from a visual camera) is as good as a true NDVI. An NDVI map needs to be done with a Near IR camera.
- Avoid Peau Productions cameras. These are what the Ag Scout (aerial media pros) uses. Before you buy a Near IR camera, take a look at some sample images. If they look pink/purple, it's a very cheap and terrible filter. Try and find one that vegetation shows up red/burnt orange, and non-vegetation shows up the normal color, or slightly darker.
- Check out IRPro. They have an NDVI-7 lens that looks good. You need to use that lens with a GoPro
- A .tiff file can be imported into AgLeader SMS and GIS software. MyJohnDeere and Apex doesn't import .tiff's
- Research what NDVI maps mean and how they can benefit a farmer. So many people are trying to charge for just an NDVI map, and I think growers actually want to know what it means. So take time to educate them
