The reason all BT corn is RU or CL is that the CL or RU gene is used for a marker to see if the process was successful. No need to grow out to test for BT (long process) any line that didn't take the RU or CL gene. Saves a lot of time.

At least that is what the girl in the white coat said during my visit.

Let's not lead anyone astray here. Not "all" Bt corn from all companies is RR or CL . Maybe in some cases it is a marker, but in others, the RR or CL gene must be "stacked" (added) to the DNA. Thus the term "double stack" or "triple stack". Other companies are using the Herculex gene which does carry the LibertyLink gene as a marker, all Herculex corn is LL. Likewise, not all Bt corn is corn borer resistant or CRW resistant. Some is one or the other, some is both. That term "Bt" is getting thrown around a lot these days and many folks don't really understand the what it stands for.

Bottom line, know what you're planting. If your seed guy won't take time to tell you, find one that will. Don't call the spray guy and tell him to put RU on that 80 unless you're 110% sure you've got the RR gene out there. If you're wrong, you won't like the results, and guess what, it won't be his fault!!!
