southern MN | The corn field under/left of us was pattern tiled 5-6 years ago.
The corn field along the trees I just bought, same type of ground planted same week, little tile.
(Lot of tile mains were put in around here from 1950s-1970s, but it was all mains following the valley to drain out the potholes, there wasn't much if any pattern tiling. Even 6 years ago when I pattern tiled that one 40, couple fellas stopped and asked me if I was putting in so much tile, doesn't need that much for a field with hills like it is....)
I have been following the corn progress weekly with the drone and it's pretty clear what a difference tile makes on crop condition in my wet clayish region.
Showed the wife one of these pictures, and she said well a pic says a lot doesn't it, we will be getting the checkbook out again this spring for tile I see. Sure makes a difference.
Lot of potential for all the different types of sensors and counts and all that can be developed and used in scouting ag crops. Kinda hard to contemplate really.
