Subject: Sprouting corn

I was checking fields today, getting a harvest plan A ready. Looked at a corn field that is probably around 24%. I pulled a few ears in a row and noticed the ears that have a flat spot on the bottom side of the ear (extreme July heat) that a couple sprouts are growing out of the flat spot. Anyone have any experience with that. I don't know when we will get harvesting, we were very dry until August 1, since then we've had over 10 inches. Wih the rain over the weekend, I have water standing in the low spots, might be an intersting fall. Thanks
