Subject: Re: What is good corn test wt

SE South Dakota
What it means to you is the you have very good quality corn, kernals are quite dense, probably matured well, and it will store better than a crop with a lower test weight. Others on this board will know better than I on the feeding qualities of high vs low test wieght corn, but local hog feed mill we sell to really only wants the higher test weights.
It just makes sense that better corn will result in a better quality feed.

For unit train shippers they need heavier corn or they risk not being able to get the railcars upto the maximun weight that the railroad allows. Any weight not put in the railcars is just leaving money on the table because most rail rates are on a per car flat rate to the destination. 48# corn will not fill a normal railcar up to the maximun loaded weight, ie. 286,000#

Ethanol, I suppose the heavier the better.
