Subject: Re: How late in the year can I still plant wheat

Grand Rapids, MI
When I was managing a farm in West Michigan, we figured the optimimum planting date was 10 days after the fly free date, we wouldn't hesitate to start though as early as the fly free date if the beans were off. We would gradually increase the seeding rate to compensate for less tillering because of the late start. I think we went from 1.8M increasing to 2.5M seeds. I would not hesitate to plant up to that Oct 25th crop insurance deadline.
